Biography:
Raised in Marshall County in a log cabin that my family built on Sorghum Ridge in Sherrard; I was fortunate to grow up with both my parents’ large extended families living in the area. During my formative years, I participated in 4-H and church youth group, instilling in me a strong commitment to community and being of service to others. I completed my undergraduate degree at West Liberty State College and master’s at WVU. I’ve been a Speech-Language Pathologist in the WV public schools for 23 years, currently serving Ohio County Schools. I’m an active member of Education West Virginia and serve as a school building union rep. I recently joined AFL-CIO because unions are stronger when they support each other. I live with my husband, Joe, and our two cats, Loki and Thor, at our home in Moundsville. Family, community, and the love of the great outdoors are what keeps me here in West Virginia and is also the reason I’m running for office. We need, regular, honest people who care about West Virginia and all the folks living here. I’d be honored to represent District 7 in the House of Delegates.
Top Issues:
I believe that we are stronger when we unite and work together. My top priority is to do the right thing for the people of West Virginia and that means listening to our community members and leaning on your expertise/experiences when creating, amending, and opposing bills in the legislature. My expertise is in the world of child development and education; however, I look forward to learning and researching each issue brought forward. I plan to be accessible, so that I can address your concerns through meaningful legislation. I will lay the groundwork for a network that can take quick action throughout the legislative session. Issues I plan to focus on include:
1) Affordable childcare
2) Lowering utility bills
3) Improving wages and protecting workers’ rights
4) Education (addressing the school aid formula, reigning in the Hope voucher program, and making PEIA solvent)
5) Infrastructure and access to safe drinking water
